The Legend of Sword was a runaway smash hit in China, where it sold more than 100,000 tickets. A hi-tech opera based on one of Asia’s most popular video games, The Legend of Sword is one of the first major stage productions to use a combination of animation, live action and augmented reality technology to create a 3D experience without the need for special glasses.
The Sydney event will be the first ever performance of The Legend of Sword outside of China, before it goes on a world tour. “The Legend of Sword show was designed with international audiences in mind, not just Asian audiences. Australia is the centre of the cultural world, where Western culture meets Eastern. It’s also one of the most multicultural places in the world - that’s why we chose it as the first stop,” says The Legend of Sword producer Ice Liang.
The opera is based on China’s most famous role-playing video game franchise The Legend of Sword and Fairy, which has spawned more than a dozen games and two TV shows since 1995. The performance is Chinese-language with English subtitles.
Duration: Approx 3 hours (including 1 interval).
